I am a huge TedEd fan! If you are not familiar with them, click this link to subscribe to their Youtube Page. This is the short lesson on How Playing an Instrument Benefits your Brain. If you want to see the full version, along with all the supporting materials, see the link at the bottom of this article.
When you listen to music, multiple areas of your brain become engaged and active. But when you actually play an instrument, that activity becomes more like a full-body brain workout. What’s going on? Anita Collins explains the fireworks that go off in musicians’ brains when they play, and examines some of the long-term positive effects of this mental workout.

So I guess this brings up the discussion… how do homeschoolers learn to play musical instruments? Share with us below in the comments if your children are taking music. I know many online courses have cropped up lately, where you are literally being taught live by a tutor. We actually have review coming out next week on one we love. I’ll be sure to pop back in here and give you that link, once the article is live.
